This high-value bike wheel combines the deep aerodynamics of our CLX 64 with the climbing prowess of the 32s, making it a versatile addition to any bike. The result of this fusion? A “”quiver killer”” wheel that ups the game in the cycling world.
The challenge with creating the CLX 50 was clear. We wanted a wheel that was aerodynamically optimized, ultra-wide, under 1400 grams and deep around 48 to 54mm. We achieved this by incorporating some weight-saving techniques previously developed for the CLX 32 and aerodynamic guidance from the CLX 64.
  
Aerodynamics was given priority during the creation of the CLX 50. This led to a deep dive into Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) computer modelling to fine-tune the rim shapes. The process was rigorous, resulting in three optimal rim shapes that were further tested in our Win Tunnel using 24C tyres, which measure 26C. This modern-width tyre was chosen for its lower pressure requirements – granting more comfort, less rolling resistance, and optimal aerodynamic efficiency when paired with the correct rim width.
  
Once an ideal optimized rim shape was found, the rims were laced via 21 DT Swiss Aerolite spokes to the Aero Flange (AF) hub, which boasts legendary CeramicSpeed bearings and reliable DT 240 hub internals. The result was a ground-breaking 50mm-deep, 770-gram clincher wheelset that not only outperforms competition’s similar depth wheel, but is also measurably faster in all types of terrain.
